PINEWOOD DERBY

This last weekend our ward had a pinewood derby for everyone!! We were not planning on making a car until and hour before the event. We had just been to Macy's candy themed birthday party which was the inspiration for our car, or should I say limo.
The activity was a blast! We were nervous that our car wouldn't even make it down the track, but we actually one our first heat! In the second heat we were up against a car with a rocket strapped to the back so we didn't even stand a chance.

What a fun night!

Jade was looking pretty cute!

Our car did get a head start! :)

We DID it!

Juliann and I right after!

Em at mile 9
Mile 12
(Juliann is still smiling)

YES, WE ROCK!

It's official Juliann, Em and I completed a half marathon,
and we did
AWESOME!

We all worked hard to train for this day. Even despite Em's knee injury, Juliann's migraines, and my concussion the week before we were able to waste the goals that I had set. (Juliann just wanted to finish the race, but I wanted to break 2 hours)

We all three went down to Laguna Hills the night before to stay in a hotel so that we could make sure to get a good night of sleep and so that we would not have to wake up as early on race day.

We were so excited to be free of kids and to be in a hotel. We even jumped on the beds! We had a delicious dinner of Cafe Rio to carb up and even took a dip in the hot tub before going to bed early.

We were not able to get the great night of sleep as planned. Juliann didn't fall asleep until 2:30 am and I was wide awake at 4:30am. I guess we were just too anxious and nervous to sleep.

We got to the starting line and the race began. There were 5,000 runners so it was hard to get going because there were so many people. It reminded me of back in the day when I use to swim races in a lake and the starts were brutal. People would be swimming on top of each other and people would pull you back with each stroke. I remember looking at my watch at mile one and our time said 10:45!! We couldn't run our normal pace with all the people! To break 2 hours we needed to be holding an average pace of 9 min miles. How were we now going to make that up??? After a couple of miles were were finally able to weed through the masses of people and find our pace. By mile 4 we had already made up for the first mile. We were doing great.

At around mile 6 after a hill we were met by Dan, Jade, Lisa, and Josh!! They offered us drinks and candy(pop rocks and lemon heads). None of us felt like eating any candy. But, just seeing little Jade gave me even more energy. I was feeling great and didn't even start to feel tired until mile 9 and even then I felt I could go a lot more.

At around mile 9 we saw Dan and the gang again. This time they had spray bottles and cooled us down. It felt great.

Juliann had the chicken dance song stuck in her head for all 13 miles!! I'm sure people hated running near us because even at mile 13 we were just chatting away. We talked about all the gifts Jade got for her birthday and talked about Juliann's cruise that she is about to go on.

At mile 12 Dan had another surprise for us!!! He mooned us and on his bum was written
GO!HAHA it was pretty funny.
(Sorry that you had to see that Juliann)

Around that time I knew that not only would we break 2 hours but we would be well under. It felt good to know that we would not need to sprint into the finish line to make my goal. The last stretch was up a hill and we raced in and finished together with a finishing time of 1:55:59!!
WE ROCK! I got 12th out of my age group of 67 and Juliann got 21st of 92 in her age group!!

I felt pretty great afterwards and didn't really get sore. Now I'm thinking about doing another, or maybe next one should be a FULL MARATHON?

We all scream for ICE CREAM!

Jade turned ONE on May 28th. I can't believe my little baby girl is now a toddler. She is growing too fast. I decided to throw her an ice cream party because Dan and I don't really care for cake and ICE CREAM is my favorite! I also want Jade to love it as much as I do. I was worried about the weather and the ice cream melting but everything turned out GREAT!

When i saw this romper on etsy I had to have it.
Isn't it so cute?

(it must have been sunny because every picture that I have of her she is squinting)

This was Jade's first time tasting anything sweet and sugary,
and boy did she love it!
It took her a little while
to get use to the COLD ice cream.

Of course she also HAD to have some cupcakes at her party!

Thanks to everyone for coming!

Jade and some of her BFF's.
This picture cracks me up!
Brinley, Jade, and Ava!

Pin the CHERRY on the ice cream cone.

So thirsty after all those sweets.

Here is the table with all the yummy goodies...

The small cones are rice krispies in the shape of an ice cream cone and the BIG ones are cupcakes that look like ice cream cones. They were both super easy to make!

A special THANKS to my sister Nichole for cutting out EVERYTHING!! It would not have turned out as cute without all of her help. Also, thanks to Em, Lisa, and Josh!! Thanks for helping me get everything set up and helping with Jade!!

daddy daughter campout

Ever since Jade was born Dan has always wanted to sleep with Jade. He begs me all the time to let her sleep in our bed. He has even asked me if I thought the crib would hold if he climbed in to lay with her for just a minute. This weekend all of his dreams have come true.

This weekend was our ward's father son camp out. Dan would have taken Jade and dressed her like a boy, but decided to have a camp out of his own at home. When it was time for us to go to bed he decided to sneak in her room and make a bed on her floor for them to sleep on. He thought if he could transfer her quick onto the floor then she would not wake up. Well, he was wrong.

She woke up immediately and knew something was different. I was in the room too so we both had to drop instantly to the floor and pretend that we were asleep. She was SO cute. She crawled around exploring the floor and the pillows that we had put up to barricade her in. She would crawl over to us and look at us, and then just go back to her exploring. You could tell that she was still really tired because every minute or two she would lay her head down to rest for a bit. She even at one point rested her head right next to Dan's on his pillow. Dan's dreams had come true.

After around 30 minutes she fell asleep and I snuck out and got these cute shots.

I went to bed in our room and was awoken by Dan at 3:00am. She woke up and started playing again so Dan put her back in her crib. I guess the change of scenery was just too exciting for her to sleep.

Dan loved the camp out with Jade even despite the 3 am waking. He has already said that he is definitely doing it again next weekend!

Flashback

Recently I found some pictures of me from when I was young. I don't have very many, but from what I can tell Jade looks just like I did! Sometimes I will look at her and can see myself in her. It is weird. Tell me what you think? Is it just me?

This picture below is actually of my little sister Stevie. I think Jade looks a lot like her also.

It's official!

I just signed up to run the Laguna Hills Half Marathon!! I have been sort of training, but now need to kick into high gear because it's soon. I ran 8.5 last Saturday and this weekend going to run 9. I have been lucky enough to have my friend Juliann to run with. We do ALL of our runs together and it makes the time fly by having her to chat with. Now, I just need to get her to commit to the race. I will not be able to do it without her. Dan sister Em will be coming down for the race too, but she will probably be too fast for me to stay with. Dan already said that he was going to plan differnt surprises at certain mile markers to keep us entertained. Hopefully, there will be no mooning on the list! I'm excited but also very scared. I have trained for a half 3 years ago with Dan but then we never ended up running the actual race. I'll keep you all posted on our progress...and if you see Juliann, tell her how excited you are that she will be doing the race! (maybe that will make her turn in her enrty forms)
